Affordable Artists Studio Space : Bursary Spaces Available Hackney Downs Studios

Affordable Artists Studio Space : Bursary Spaces Available Hackney Downs Studios

Affordable Studio Space Scheme
Bursary Spaces Available: June 2012

We are setting up an affordable studio scheme based at our Hackney Downs Studios site.

The rentals will be based on a shared occupancy scheme with artists being allocated a space, according to their discipline.

The studios will be subsidised by Eat Work Art with artists paying between £120-£200 PCM for their spaces depending on size.

In the first instance we are offering three bursary spaces to artists wishing to play a more active role in the management of the space. In exchange for helping to set up and run the space the successful applicants will receive free use of their own studio space. Duties include arranging viewings, working with the build team to design the space, dealing with enquiries regarding the space, programming a group exhibition twice yearly, updating social media and website and dealing with the day to day running of an artists workshop space.

We plan to work with partners from various educational institutions, community organisations and the community local to Hackney Downs to create a community of practicing artists.

Based in what is was formally known as ‘The Heartspace’ within Hackney Downs Studios, the shared studio / workshop comprises of over 3000 sq ft, with plenty of natural light and access to a roof terrace. Beautiful and inspiring in its own right we believe it is the perfect space to situate this scheme.

We aim to afford creatives a real platform to pursue their practice.

Eat Work Art will curate two exhibitions yearly to act as a showcase for works created within the affordable studio spaces.

The artists will have access to Eat Work Art’s marketing reach which stretches over 10,000 followers on facebook, over 5000 on twitter, a 11,000 strong mailing list and support from press opinion leaders.

The artists will also have the chance to form networks with the residents of Netil House & Hackney Downs Studios opening up opportunities to create work and employment.
